“Giving back isn’t always about money. Knowledge is one of the greatest gifts we can offer each other.”
When Aneela joined The Motley Fool, her goal was to gain confidence as an investor, and what she found was also a way to empower others. As a first-generation immigrant who learned the power of financial knowledge, she helps women in her community, especially those navigating divorce or starting over later in life, learn to invest, build equity, and take control of their financial futures. She teaches friends how to read their portfolios, how to think about buying their first stock or first rental property, and how small decisions compound into confidence.

“Being a Fool means you’ve had the education and good fortune to understand investing. That’s a privilege — and a responsibility. We should be grateful enough to help others get their start. When you’ve been given so much by luck and circumstance, the right thing to do is pay it forward.”
From his years in the Navy to his long career as a mortgage banker and then a retail worker, Ronald Hyman has always believed in sharing what he has learned. At 77, in Brownsville, Texas, he continued that mission by guiding younger Home Depot coworkers to start saving and investing for their future through one-on-one conversations in the break room, where he explained compound growth and the value of saving even $20 a paycheck. His perspective on giving is shaped by gratitude for good fortune, good health, and the chance to pay it forward.

“We realized that if we pulled our resources and our research, we could make a bigger difference together.”
Joy first discovered The Motley Fool through the original newsletters and soon realized the power of long-term investing. That belief in what’s possible when people work together is also what led her to help build a women’s giving circle in her community of Greenville, South Carolina. What began as a handful of women gathering on a sofa grew to 250 members pooling funds, conducting deep research, and awarding grants to local nonprofits supporting prenatal care programs, foster youth support services, and community arts development—changing lives at scale that individual donations alone could not.

“It’s not about you — it’s about what you can do for others. The difference you make in someone else’s life is the imprint you leave behind.”
A licensed therapist and certified professional coach, Mavalynne first joined The Motley Fool 20 years ago because she admired the courage, integrity, and humor of The Fool founders and stayed because of the community’s heart for helping others. Today, she brings that same Foolish energy to her own circle by running a family WhatsApp group where she shares Motley Fool articles, charts, and financial insights to help relatives and friends grow more confident about money. For her, giving isn’t just financial – it’s emotional, intellectual, and deeply human.
As we celebrate the spirit of Paying it Forward, we hope you’ll find your own way to join us and enjoy the benefits of giving back.
